This page gives you a quick reference of commands. It is divided into several categories- Logging In, Information, Set-Up, Communication, Movement, and Other.

Type commands exactly as shown in the syntax, except that you should replace things in < > with information supplied by you. Don't type the < >. For example, to use the look command, where you see the command syntax as:

look <object>

And the object at which you want took is a dog, type:

look dog

The best way to learn the commands is to log on to Shambala and experiment with them, using this page as a list of commands with which you may want to experiment. Don't try to memorize everything before you log in! You don't need to; Shambala should be easy enough to use without knowing everything.

If you need additional help on a particular command, click on the example links in the right-hand column.

Logging In

These two commands may only be used at Shambala's connect screen.

Command Syntax: Function: Example:
create <name> <password> Creates a new player (character) with the <name> you choose and the <password> you choose. [create]
connect <name> <password> Connects to a previously created player (character) with the <name> you chose and your <password>. [connect]

Information

These commands help you get information about Shambala.

Command Syntax: Function: Example:
look <object> Shows you the description of the <object> in your room. Typed without specifying an <object>, shows you the description of the room in which you are. [look]
WHO Shows you a list of everyone connected to the Shambala. [WHO]

newsThis gives you an index of informational files about Shambala, such as rules and updates.[news]

Set-Up

You can use these commands for set-up of your player. Many players will use these commands once and then need not remember them every again, and this table is designed to help you with that initial use. These commands have other uses, which you may read about in help if you wish.

Command Syntax: Function: Example:
@desc me=<text> Sets your description as <text>. Your description is what people see when they look at you. [@desc]
@sex me=<gender> Sets your gender, where <gender> is male, female, or neuter. [@sex]
@lock me=me Using this command will prevent other players from picking you up with the get command and carrying you around. [@lock]
@set me=enter_ok This command will allow other players to give things to you. [@set]

Communication

These commands allow you to communicate with other players.

Command Syntax:Function: Example:
"<text> You will say <text> out loud, and everyone who is with you in your current room will hear it. The " (double quotation mark) is a shortcut for the say command. [say]
:<text> This is similiar to say, except that instead of saying something, you will be attributed with doing the action you specify in <text>. The : (colon) is a shortcut for the pose command. [pose]
page <name>=<text> This command sends a private message of <text> to the player you specify by <name>. The player does not need to be in the same room with you, and can be anywhere in Shambala. [page]
whisper <name>=<text> This command gives the private message of <text> to the player you specify by <name>. The player must be in the same room as you, and everyone else in the room can see that you are whispering to <name> but cannot hear the <text>. [whisper]
@mail/quick <name> / <subject>=<text> This command allows you to send the message that you write in <text> to the player you specify by <name>, with the subject line of <subject>. The player to whom you are sending mail can read it the next time he or she logs in. [@mail]
@mail Use this command to check your mail.[@mail]
@mail <#> Use this command to read the mail message, specified by <#>. [@mail]

Movement

These commands help you get from room to room within Shambala.

Command Syntax: Function: Example:
<exit> By simply typing the name of an exit, you will go through that exit from your room to another room. This is a shortcut for the move command. Some exits have even shorter shortcuts, as indicated between brackets or parentheses beside the exit's name.[move]
@tel me=<room> This command teleports you from your current room to another room, regardless of whether there is an exit between them. However, you are only able to teleport to that room if the room's owner allows you. The <room> is identified by it's database number.[@tel]
home This command teleports you to your home room. Your default home is Shambala's Homeless Shelter, unless you set it somewhere else (usually to a room you create). [home]
+map This command will show you a general map of places to which you can go on Shambala.[+map]
